A cozy knit sweater is a must-have in every wardrobe during the fall and winter seasons.

Whether you've splurged on a luxurious cashmere wool piece from a high-end fashion brand or found an affordable knitwear gem at a local boutique, taking proper care of your winter knits is crucial.

Here are some easy-to-follow cleaning and maintenance tips to keep your knitwear in top-notch condition.

Maintenance Tips:

1. Instead of hanging your sweater on chair backs, staircase handrails, hangers, or bamboo poles, opt for folding it flat to prevent structural loosening due to tension.

2. Avoid using a washing machine, dryer, or other equipment as it can lead to shrinking.

3. When washing, gently rub and tap, avoiding prolonged soaking to prevent shrinking.

4. Sweaters can be dehydrated, but please use a laundry bag to tightly secure the sweater; avoid hanging, and lay it flat on a towel or drying rack in a cool place to dry naturally. You can speed up the drying process by using an electric fan.

5. Use cold water from the faucet for washing; warm water can damage the fiber of the thread and cause clothes to shrink.

6. It's recommended to use a general neutral detergent and avoid washing powder, soap, or laundry detergent.

7. For sweaters with hairballs, use tape, scissors, or a fabric shaver to remove them.

Washing Method:

1. Fill half a basin with cold water; do not use hot water.

2. Stir in the detergent gently.

3. Place the sweater in the basin and pat it for washing, avoiding excessive scrubbing to prevent structural collapse and shrinkage.

4. Wash the sweater for 3-5 minutes, lifting it out of the water with both hands from the bottom.

5. Press the dirt out without wringing or twisting.

6. Repeat steps 3 to 5 until there's no sewage in the basin.

7. Air dry by laying the sweater flat on a towel or drying rack.

8. When storing, fold the sweater instead of hanging it, and avoid spraying perfume on it to prevent changes in dyeing and color fading.

Additional Tips:

If a stain occurs, treat it by mixing a small amount of washing powder or neutral detergent with water. Use a sponge to soak up the liquid and press it onto the stain, repeating the process until the stain is gone. Then, wash the sweater in a basin of warm water with neutral detergent, pressing hard to ensure thorough cleaning without entangling the fibers.
