Most people have experienced brief, rapid and continuous burps, medically known as "hiccups", which are a common physiological phenomenon.Hiccups are usually caused by stimulated contraction of the diaphragm between the chest and abdomen.

Each repeated contraction is accompanied by a sudden closure of the vocal cords, resulting in the typical "hiccup" sound.

Hiccuping can be caused by gulping or drinking carbonated beverages, bloating, sudden excitement or nervousness.

Most people's hiccups usually last only a few minutes at a time. However, some diseases may cause prolonged hiccups, the real cause is not clear, hiccups is only one of the symptoms, but also a more easily detected warning sign.

Burps AKA hiccup, which is the process of expelling gas from the stomach due to the spasm and contraction of the diaphragm. It may be caused by swallowing air, eating cold food, oblong brain lesions, gastrointestinal diseases and other factors.

1. Swallowing air: If you laugh, talk or eat too fast during eating, air may enter the stomach with the food, and the gas will be burped out through the mouth, resulting in hiccup.

2. Eating too cold food: If you eat iced drinks, or eat too cold fruits, etc., it may cause diaphragmatic spasm, resulting in hiccups.

3. Oblongatum lesions: Oblongatum lesions may lead to the loss of the inhibition function of the hiccup reflex arc, resulting in hiccups, which are common in brain tumors, encephalitis, meningitis and other diseases.

4. Gastrointestinal diseases: functional dyspepsia, gastritis, peptic ulcer, gastroesophageal reflux disease, etc. may cause gastrointestinal dysfunction, diaphragm spasm, and hiccups.

Three ways to relieve hiccups:

1. Drinking water and bending over method: Drink a large mouthful of warm water, swallow it slowly, and do 10 to 15 times of bending over 90 degrees at the same time. Do not move too fast, repeat 2 to 3 times.

2. Breath-holding method: Pinch your nose, close your mouth, hold your breath as much as possible, and then slowly exhale, repeat several times. When holding your breath, you should do what you can to avoid symptoms such as dizziness due to hypoxia.

3. Curling method: Sitting on a chair, holding your legs with your hands and leaning forward, helps to expel gas.

Don't eat too much too fast, eat less spicy.

To prevent hiccups, you must pay attention to your diet on weekdays. Don't eat too fast or too much during meals, burping is actually a reminder for your body to give it time to digest; also try to eat less spicy food, so as not to irritate the stomach.

If hiccups last more than 48 hours or are severe enough to cause eating, sleeping, or breathing problems, seek medical attention as soon as possible.
