Hey, Lykkers! Have you ever dreamed of exploring a charming coastal city with a blend of maritime history, modern attractions, and stunning ocean views?

That’s exactly what we discovered on our journey to Plymouth, and we can’t wait to share our favorite spots with you.

Stroll Through The Historic Barbican

One of the highlights of our trip was wandering through The Barbican, Plymouth’s historic quarter. We felt like we had stepped back in time as we walked down the cobblestone streets lined with quaint shops, galleries, and cafes. The area is known for its maritime heritage, and we even had the chance to visit The Mayflower Steps, a monument that marks the spot where the Pilgrims set sail for America in 1620. The Barbican also offers some of the best seafood in town, and we enjoyed a delightful lunch by the harbor, watching the boats gently sway with the tide.

Opening Hours: The Barbican is open to visitors all day, and The Mayflower Steps are accessible 24/7.

Ticket Price: Free to explore, with some attractions requiring a fee.

Experience Ocean Exploration at The National Marine Aquarium

We also had an incredible time at the National Marine Aquarium, the largest of its kind in the UK. From the moment we entered, we were captivated by the mesmerizing underwater exhibits, featuring everything from graceful stingrays to vibrant coral reefs. One of the highlights was watching a diver feed the sharks during the interactive feeding session—an experience that left us in awe! It’s an excellent destination for families, and the educational exhibits make it a great way to learn about marine life and conservation.

Opening Hours: The aquarium is open daily from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Ticket Price: 19.50 GBP for adults, 15.00 GBP for children, with family packages available.

Practical Tips for Exploring Plymouth

If you’re planning to get around Plymouth, we found that walking and cycling are the best ways to explore the city center and its surroundings. Public buses are also convenient, and we recommend purchasing a day pass if you plan to use them often. Spring and summer are ideal times to visit, with mild weather that’s perfect for coastal walks and outdoor activities. Also, be sure to bring a light jacket, as it can get breezy near the waterfront.

Where to Eat: Local Delicacies

Plymouth’s food scene is a treat, especially for seafood lovers! We recommend trying fish and chips by the harbor, made with freshly caught fish that melts in your mouth. We also visited a cozy cafe near the Barbican where we enjoyed a delicious vegetarian dish—a traditional Cornish delicacy that has been given a modern twist with veggies and cheese. Expect to spend around 10-15 GBP for a meal at most cafes and eateries.

Stay in Comfort: Boringdon Hall Hotel

During our stay, we chose Boringdon Hall Hotel, a stunning historic manor just a short drive from the city center. The rooms were spacious, and we loved the mix of classic elegance with modern comfort. The hotel also features a fantastic spa, which was perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring. Rooms start at around 150 GBP per night, making it a great option if you’re looking for a touch of luxury.
