Hello, Lykkers! Are you ready to join us on a journey to one of the most breathtaking destinations in the world?

We recently explored the stunning landscapes of New Zealand, and we're thrilled to share our unforgettable experiences with you. Let’s dive into the magic of this beautiful country!

Milford Sound - The Jewel of Fiordland

Exploring Milford Sound

Nestled in the heart of Fiordland National Park, Milford Sound is a stunning fjord known for its towering cliffs, lush rainforests, and cascading waterfalls. As we cruised through the calm waters, surrounded by sheer rock faces, it felt like stepping into a natural paradise. The highlight of our trip was spotting playful dolphins swimming alongside our boat, adding a touch of magic to an already breathtaking scenery.

Interesting Story: During our journey, we learned that the iconic Mitre Peak, which rises sharply from the waters of the fjord, is one of the most photographed mountains in New Zealand. However, capturing the perfect shot can be tricky due to the ever-changing weather. Luckily, we managed to snap a photo just as the sun peeked out from behind the clouds, illuminating the peak in a golden glow.

Opening Hours and Ticket Prices: Milford Sound cruises operate daily, with tours available from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Ticket prices vary depending on the cruise, ranging from NZD 90 to NZD 150 per person. We recommend booking your tour in advance, especially during peak travel seasons.

Exploring Waitomo Glowworm Caves

Our next adventure took us to the enchanting Waitomo Glowworm Caves, where we discovered a magical underground world lit by thousands of tiny glowworms. As we drifted silently through the dark caves on a boat, the glowworms created a mesmerizing display, twinkling like stars on a clear night. It was a surreal experience that felt almost otherworldly.

Interesting Story: The glowworms that light up the caves are unique to New Zealand, and they have an interesting life cycle. During our guided tour, we learned how these little creatures use their light to attract prey, which made the experience even more fascinating. The guide’s storytelling brought the caves to life, making it a truly immersive adventure.

Opening Hours and Ticket Prices: The Waitomo Glowworm Caves are open daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Guided tours are available, costing around NZD 55 for adults and NZD 25 for children. We suggest arriving early in the day to avoid the crowds and fully enjoy the peaceful glow of the caves.

Mount Cook - The Majestic Southern Alps

Exploring Mount Cook

No trip to New Zealand is complete without a visit to Mount Cook, the highest peak in the Southern Alps. We were awestruck by the snow-capped mountains and pristine glaciers that surround this iconic landmark. The hiking trails here offer stunning views, and our favorite was the Valley Track, which took us across swinging bridges and along scenic riverbeds to a viewpoint overlooking the majestic Mount Cook.

Interesting Story: Did you know that Mount Cook was the training ground for Sir Edmund Hillary before he climbed Mount Everest? Learning about this history as we hiked made the journey even more special. The crisp mountain air and spectacular scenery made it easy to understand why Hillary was so drawn to this place.

Opening Hours and Ticket Prices: The national park is open all year round, and there are no entrance fees to explore the trails. However, if you’re interested in guided glacier tours or helicopter rides, prices start at NZD 100. We highly recommend booking these activities ahead of time, especially during peak seasons.

Practical Tips for Your New Zealand Adventure

Traveling Around: Renting a car is one of the best ways to explore New Zealand, as it gives you the flexibility to visit remote attractions and discover hidden gems at your own pace. We found the roads to be well-maintained, but keep in mind that some areas may require extra caution, especially in the mountainous regions.

Best Time to Visit: New Zealand’s weather can be quite variable, so it’s important to plan your trip based on what you want to do. Summer (December to February) is perfect for outdoor activities like hiking and beach visits, while winter (June to August) is ideal for skiing and snowboarding. We traveled during spring, and it was a fantastic time to enjoy the lush greenery and moderate temperatures.
